About us
We started with pugs in 1998. I wanted a companion for my 3 yr. old daughter Rachel. I researched breeds that were good with children. The pug fit the bill! Our first pug was Zoe......
After a year I decided it would be nice if Zoe and Rachel had a new friend. So in 1999 we bought our second pug. This time a male. We named him Fozzie Bear after the SESAME STREET CHARACTER. He was meant to be just a pet. However, as the months went by he grew into a beautiful big puppy. I took him back to the breeder who sold him to me just so that she could look at him and keep in touch. She was surprised at how handsome he was. He continued to grow into a stunning example of the breed standard.
With the breeders mentoring and advice I started my journey into the sport of dog showing. It didn't take long to achieve Fozzies championship. I entered him occasionally on a limited bases. He kept winning those PURPLE ribbons!
THE REST IS HISTORY! We caught the Pug Bug, We continue to enjoy showing them in AKC santioned dog shows in conformation.
I can say with pride that my family and I have bred, raised, trained, and handled all our own pugs to their championships. Tesoropugs is small but elite. We are well respected in California and through out the country by all our fellow show breeders and pug community.
We are NOT about mass producing puppies for either show or pets. I breed once or twice a year with the very best AKC champions that represent the breed to its highest standards. I keep puppies with show potencial. I sell some as pets occasionally. I only consider serious or past pug parents for them.
We are also active members of our local and National dog clubs. ORANGE EMPIRE, CITY OF ANGELS PUG CLUB, AND PUG DOG CLUB OF AMERICA. We live and breed by their code of ethics.
In conclusion, if you decide that this is the breed for you, please read and educate your self first. Buying a puppy or an adult pug from a responsible breeder who's job it is, is to improve the breed should be first and foremost. A reputable responsible breeder maintains champion pedigrees, Has healthy generations for you to look at, Keeps puppies longer then 6, 7, 8 weeks of age. Does not use the word CHAMPION LINES just to sell puppies that are not from their direct ancestry..
If you buy from a BACK YARD BREEDER, Be careful! There's hundreds out there! All you have to do is Google "pug puppies". These kind of people who breed to make a fast buck are NOT associated with dog clubs. They don't show their dogs in shows. They breed inferior animals. Don't keep careful pedigrees. Do not breed to improve. They do not have a love and passion for animals.
